Woman's bodice of maroon silk faille, with high stand collar, and long sleeves, slightly puffed at tops; appliqué of embroidered cut steel beads in floral/leaf vine pattern around sleeve bottoms; similar appliqué on chest in abstract floral/leaf and scroll patterns, with beaded fringe and tassels; boned and fitted around waist; narrow tucks on either side of front opening; closure with 18 cut steel bead covered ball buttons; slightly pointed lower front and back, with short tails on back; double layer of cream colored silk and organdy (?) fabric with silk cord edging at wrists (undercuffs) and neck (under collar); tan sateen lining and tabs with hook & eye closure at front waist (inner waistband); 2 metal eyes inside at back waist (to secure skirt or bustle?). Beads identified as hematite, and bodice dated ca. 1880s by previous curator. Height measurement below does not include sleeves; width taken across chest/top of sleeves.
