The program for the 3rd Amherst College Commencement. Beginning with the program for the first Commencement in August 1822, commencement programs contain the order of exercises for commencement ceremonies. Since 1826, most programs also provide a list of candidates receiving their bachelor of arts degrees. Other information contained in programs has varied over the years.
From 1822-1824 the College was primarily known as the Collegiate Institution. After charter was granted in 1825, the institution was thereafter known as Amherst College.
