Amherst College annual report to secondary schools, report on admission to Amherst College, and information regarding freshman year, 1955
Description:
The ninth annual report to secondary schools, dated October 1955. From 1947-2008, the Office of Admission sent the reports as resources for secondary school administrators and the students they guided. Provided in the reports were statistics on the incoming freshman class and information regarding the College's admission policies. Reports also often provided updates regarding the admissions staff, campus, financial aid, or the College's curriculum. Starting in 1971 some statistics regarding the senior class were also provided, and starting in 1995 statistics regarding transfer students were included. Accompanying this report are three additional documents: a postcard addressed to Newton F. McKeon, Jr. from Eugene S. Wilson noting that the report on admissions sent to him should have been marked as confidential, a typescript report containing similar information pertaining to admissions and the incoming class that was likely sent to College faculty, and a document regarding the College's freshman academic program and policy on granting advanced standing in each subject which was sent to secondary school administrators. All of the accompanying documents are dated October 1955.
