  <mods:abstract>A pamphlet of the addresses given at the dedication of the new Amherst College Cabinet and Observatory on June 29, 1848. The pamphlet includes a preface, the welcome address given by College President Edward Hitchcock, the principle address given by Trustee William B. Calhoun, and addresses given at the public dinner portion of the event. Content which was read at the public dinner includes contributions from Hitchcock and Calhoun, Governor Armstrong (presumably Samuel Turell Armstrong), Heman Humphrey, Bela B. Edwards, Mr. Williston (presumably Samuel Williston), Josiah B. Woods, David Sears, Abbott Lawrence, Gerard Hallock, Professor Benjamin Silliman, Professor Charles Upham Shepard, Professor Benjamin Silliman, Jr., William C. Redfield, Jonathan C. Perkins (presumably Jonathan Cogswell Perkins), Sarah S. Mugford, and Dr. Worcester (presumably Samuel M. Worcester). There is an additional remark made by Professor Adams (presumably Charles B.
