Alpheus Hardy and Henry Edwards letter to an unknown recipient in which they write on behalf of the Trustees of Amherst College and ask the recipient for financial aid. Hardy and Edwards explain that an individual has offered Amherst College twenty thousand dollars on the condition that a like sum be raised for the purpose of placing the Scientific Department of the College on a complete and thorough basis. They explain what sums have been raised and what is still needed by July 1, asking the recipient to aid them to secure the sum in time.
