<mods:abstract>A letter to Emily Hitchcock Terry in which Simeon Gilbert writes about Emily's father, Edward Hitchcock. Gilbert describes Edward Hitchcock in a very positive light, calling him "one of the foremost geologists of his day" and credits him with causing "the whole Valley of the Connecticut River to occupy a new place in the geological history of the world." Simeon goes on to wish Emily well in her later years.</mods:abstract>
