<mods:abstract>A letter to Emily Hitchcock Terry in which William Hayes Ward writes about Emily's father, Edward Hitchcock. Ward notes how much he enjoyed talks that Hitchcock gave in his parlor on Sundays when he was president of Amherst College, and Ward was a student at Amherst. Ward also notes that a Mary Dickinson has had surgery, and about how busy he is managing Hamilton Holt's department at the newspaper, "The Independent" while Holt is away. The letter is written on the stationary of the newspaper.</mods:abstract>
