Incomplete sermon notes by Edward Hitchcock for a sermon delivered at Amherst College in February 1852, discussing the work of missionary Matthew Stach in Greenland in the early eighteenth century. Hitchcock also mentions missionary Hans Egede, and recounts the many difficulties faced by him and Stack before their successes. He concludes with the lesson that if hard work is prepared for with discipline, people can be encouraged rather than discouraged when meeting difficulties.
