Sermon notes by Edward Hitchcock for a sermon delivered at Amherst College in April 1850, discussing the shortness of Christ’s special presence, especially as related to religious revivals. He demonstrates the brevity of revivals through history, and discusses the ending of revivals as moments when true Christians and those only professing religion stand out as different. Many wish for the end of revivals so that they may return to their worldly plans, but Hitchcock laments their position, knowing how rare and short revivals are and knowing also the fate of the non-converted. John 12:8 and John 12:35 are quoted. Hitchcock has written related hymns on the cover.
