William Pitt Amherst writes to inform Van Alen of the death of his uncle, Jeffery Amherst, and his inheritance of the Amherst title, estate and business. William Pitt requests that Van Alen conduct a survey of Jeffery Amherst's property in New York State so that he may determine the rent and duration of the current leases on the property.</mods:abstract>
