Letter from Jeffery Amherst dated October 25, 1761 from Staten Island, New York. The letter is addressed to Colonel John Bradsteet, who was charged with organizing the local teamsters and boatmen to transport supplies along the waterways of the Great Lakes and upstate New York. Jeffery Amherst informs Bradstreet that Colonel Haviland and part of the 17th Regiment have arrived at Staten Island, New York. Amherst advises Bradstreet that he has granted the payment of eight thousand pounds sterling to Colonel Bradstreet's department and has notified Mr. Abraham Mortier of the payment. Amherst informs Bradstreet that the "Batteaumen, Teamsters and Waggoners" under Colonel Bradstreet's command will be paid in the same manner as last year, unless they have deserted.
