Letter from Jeffery Amherst dated December 3, 1761 from New York. The letter is addressed to Colonel William E. Byrd, III. Amherst expresses his wish that the Assembly of Virigina will reconsider a law that they have passed and lengthen the term of service so that the Second Virginia Regiment will not be disbanded during the French and Indian War. Amherst also congratulates Colonel Byrd and his wife on the birth of their child.
