Laurence Doggett was Springfield College's fourth president and remained in that position for thirty-nine years. During his time at Springfield, Doggett increased and improved the facilities, grew the student body from fifty to 500 and increased the number of faculty from eight to forty. Doggett was also instrumental in developing the college's humanics philpophy which called for the education of the whole person in spirit, mind and body. This philosophy is still used by the college today. Doggett died in 1957 at the age of 92.
