Clint arrived in Bar-sur-Aube yesterday afternoon, where he reported to the adjutant general and ran into lieutenant colonel Graham, who had recently been informed of his wife's death. The town is clean and his workspace is nice, and prospects for returning home soon are bright. He writes about breaking off his engagement with Helen so that he could become engaged to Rhea. He hopes that Martha will not raise any objections since it would do no good anyway, and it does not bother Clint that he will be marrying a Jewish woman. She has shown remarkable fortitude these trying months and Clint will be there to support her again soon.
