Clint writes about the favorable progress of the war and celebrations back home. He apologizes for not writing enough letters and explains that it's difficult when he doesn't have a permanent location. He saw a battlefield recently that had been occupied only a few days ago, and he gets mad when he reads about other couples getting married. He begs her not to get so upset with him that she stops writing, since he feels so apart from everything without news from home.
