Clint has learned that the reason Rhea hadn't heard from him in so long was that all their mail from December was overlooked and remained undelivered until the new year. He worries that she will catch the flu since she spends so much time in schools, and urges her to be careful. He's been sick himself lately and the leave he and Captain Sampson requested has been delayed. He visited Koblenz the other day and is finding his new situation a bit more liveable now. He reflects on his situation now in comparison to while the war was going on, his financial situation and army pay, and the debt he owes his parents for all they have done for him.
