Brent has just received James' letter of November 3rd, making that the longest delay he's had since arriving in Europe. He writes about the end of the war and Germany's premature surrender. Karl Jackson has been promoted to 1st lieutenant and Brent plans to visit him. He also addresses his lack of enthusiasm for the end of the war in an earlier letter, writing that he thought peace came too soon for the American Nation and he is concerned it will not stick. There is no such thing as lasting peace and they must be prepared for the next conflict. The comparison of lives lost to the war and the 350,000 lives lost at home to influenza are interesting to him, and he is glad that Hal recovered and did not become part of that number.
