Mary relays some news from home to Herman and comments that the town is empty of young men. She writes about several topics, including George's health, the weather, crops, friends and family, and the progress of the war, including the United States' involvement in the Russian Civil War. She has passed the physical examination to be a nurse but doesn't mean to be working at her age. She is going to a presentation of Alice in Wonderland and hopes it will be good.
