Brent has been promoted to lieutenant colonel and is now at least temporarily part of the National Army. The title is making him feel old and he's also recently lost a tooth. On June 1st he will complete his first six months and get his chevron. Soon he will be moving closer to his motor activities, which are growing in scale. He wishes he could say more about them but he doesn't dare. His office has greatly expanded from four months ago and now resembles a big automobile office from New York or Boston. Men such as Walter White from the White Motor Company have been helping him go over his plans. He writes about the scale of his work and how it has been increasing, which makes him feel younger and more energetic than he has in years. He's beset by occasional periods of depression which the chief surgeon has told him is caused by chronic appendicitis that could be fixed with an operation, although he does not have the time for that.
