Brent thinks that Molly's stay at the cottage sounds restful and writes about past times when he felt a longing for home. He hopes that she is having a good vacation and comments on the cold French summer he's been having. He hopes that the Germans will be discouraged by the losing they have been doing and the war will be shorter for it.
