A Grand Format cylinder music box by Nicole Freres, Geneva, sold by Wales & McCulloch of London. The lid, which is slightly convex, has a large, elaborate inlay design of a harp, castanets, pan pipe, and aulos with leafy branches. The front panel has similar, smaller design of a tambourine, castanets, and trumpets with leafy branches. The lid opens on three brass hinges to reveal the cynlinder and works, which are protected by separate, hinged, glass lid. A card attached to the underside of the lid lists the "18 Airs" contained on the cylinder. Purchased at Wales & McCulloch, London, likely between 1872 and 1890 (when the company had an address at 22 Ludgate Hill).
