<mods:abstract>This is a photograph of a six people, including Alvah L. Miller, standing in the far rear left. The rest of the people in the photograph are unidentified. Two are in uniforms and there are two women seated, wearing hats.</mods:abstract>
<mods:note>Alvah Miller was the General Secretary or CEO of the Jerusalem YMCA starting in 1935. The vision of Dr. Archibald Clinton Harte (1865-1946) who worked tirelessly planning every detail and raising funds, the Jerusalem International YMCA was dedicated in 1933 with the words “Here is a spot whose atmosphere is peace, where political and religious jealousies can be forgotten and international unity be fostered and developed.” Designed by noted American architect Arthur Loomis Harmon of Shreve, Lamb and Harmon, the building was originally composed of three principal units: the center with its tower on the north side that arises to a majestic 152 feet; the auditorium connected to the main building by a cloistered passage with a vaulted roof and known as the golden hall of friendship; and the Gymnasium or physical unit with various gymnasia, swimming pool and outside playing fields and courts.</mods:note>
