Khaki canvas haversack or field pack from World War I. Pack opens entirely flat. Bottom flap is a separate piece secured to pack body by a leather strap woven through slits. Top flap is sewn to body. Additional inner flap is also sewn to body and has attached narrow canvas tape sewn down at regular 1/12-inch intervals to form openings (for ammunition?). Side flaps each have three attached straps with S-hooks. Top flap has two metal-tipped woven straps. Top flap is printed "U.S." Hand lettering reads, "Paul Tedesco / Troop 22." Inside of flap has hand lettering reading, "McGovern / 10/5/09." Shoulder straps with square ends are sewn diagonally in place. Back of bag is printed "CANVAS PRODUCTS CO./OCT. 1918." Pack appears to be a M10 (1910 pattern) haversack, with printed, not stenciled, 'U.S.," but it has no grommets or other apparent means of attaching a meat can.
