Part of UMass Boston's Lecturer and Artist Series, Franklin's lecture, delivered on March 28, 1983, details Williams' life as a Civil War soldier/veteran, minister, lawyer, journalist, politician, including references to several periods of time spent in Boston. Franklin also discusses Williams' pioneering work as a historian of the African American experience and Franklin's own meticulous efforts to chronicle Williams' life and work.
