Bird's-eye view of the demolition of the former Shawmut Congregational Church.
Description:
A view from above of a crane and the demolition of the former Shawmut Congregational Church. Inquilinos Boricuas en Acción purchased the former church building (gutted by fire in 1978), and developed a 27-unit mixed-income condominium project on the site. They called the new building Taino Tower, after the original inhabitants of Puerto Rico. The project maintained the church tower and the church's original arched doors. The condos were put on the market in 1991. The red brick row houses of Boston's South End, here seen under cover of a very light snow, fill block after block. Downtown Boston is visible in the background.
