Alejandro A. Lanusse oral history with Robert A. Potash
Description:
Interview between Robert Potash and General Alejandro Agustín Lanusse, covering details of events happening between 1963 and 1973, including the presidency of Illia and the 1966 coup carried out against him. Among the participants or supporters of the coup were Onganía, Pistarini, López Aufranc, and Julio Alsogaray; those who opposed it were officers such as Castro Sanchez and Laprida. Other topics include the Cordobazo, the kidnapping and murder of Aramburu, the ouster of Onganía in June 1970, Lanusse's reasons for not assuming the presidency at that point, and the process that led to the elections of March 1973. The interview was originally recorded on two audiocassettes, and it cuts abruptly at a transition point, at 00:30:36 on tape 1, before continuing. The quality of the audio decreases towards the end of part one, and is quite poor for the majority of tape 2, where it ends abruptly. Robert Potash noted on the original tape 2 audiocassette, “weak battery poor quality, but useful data.”
