Stephen P. Hale, the Newbury Hermit: view from Old Town Hill over Parker River and the wetlands of the Great Marsh
Description:
From a series of images of hermits; in the Thirty-ninth annual report of The Trustees of Public Reservations (1929), Hale ("a very old and lonely cripple with limited means") is thanked for years of service and for his care of Old Town Hill, Newbury, "a bare drumlin overtopping the country for miles in every direction with a marvelous view of Plum Island Sound and the sea, was kept open for many years by the former owner of the southern half."
