This lantern slide, “Framervilles (August 1918),” shows an empty street in Framervilles, France, lined with damaged buildings. This scene appears to have taken place in Framerville-Rainecourt, a commune in the Somme department in Picardie in northern France. The only Australian involvement in Framervilles during World War I was when the 6th Brigade pushed between Rainecourt and Framerville during the Battle of Amiens. Their objective was to capture the German positions in front of Herleville. The Australian 2nd Division ultimately captured Framerville (along with Vauvillers and Rainecourt) at a cost of 1295 casualties.
