An advertisement, about 3.6" x 6.5", printed on flimsy paper, for "S. C. Spaulding, Merchant Tailor." One side shows a color image of two shoes with red buckles floating on water, each carrying five children as passengers. One shoe is sinking, with two boys bailing water and the other children gesturing for help. The shoe in the foreground is floating, with its passengers smiling and waving a U.S. flag. The reverse side contains text advertising the business, and especially water-resistant shoes for children. Stillman C. Spaulding owned a dry goods business on Station Street "near the depot" in Newton Centre in the 1860s and 1870s.
