Peter E. McCauley (1923-2009) was known as the Official Historian of the City of Revere and the "keeper of Revere's memories." For many years, he was also the Sealer of Weights and Measures for the city. Always an avid history buff, he started collecting postcards -- especially of Revere Beach and the Boulevard -- from its very beginnings. Along with a group of Revere residents, he was instrumental in founding the Revere Society for Cultural & Historical Preservation/Revere History Museum. Its core collection came from McCauley's donation covering a wide scope of the city's history, including both artifacts and photographs, as well as his considerable correspondence archive that includes all manner of people, all around the world, who had a connection to Revere. McCauley was the author of seven books about the history of the city and the beach and, in 2012, by an act of the Massachusetts Legislature, a plaza between Revere Beach pavilions numbered 3 and 4 was officially designated as the Peter E. McCauley memorial plaza.
Robert F. Upton Jr. was a long-time friend and colleague of Peter McCauley. This collection represents materials Upton obtained during his cooperative collecting efforts with McCauley over the years -- especially as related to Revere Beach. This collection was subsequently donated to the Revere Society for Cultural & Historical Preservation/Revere History Museum. Upton is the President of RevereBeach.com/MediaTeamUSA LLC. He frequently presents programs at all types of events, including slide shows. He has been involved in the creation of audio and videocassette historical projects featuring Revere Beach and its rich history and, with the help of many local historians and artists, is a strong advocate for making the history of the beach available through his website at https://reverebeach.com. He is also a real estate agent and Veteran Services Officer for the Town of Belmont, MA.
