Description

Green Hill is the best known example of early 19th century country homes said to be inspired by the the plantations of the West Indies. It was constructed in 1806 for Nathaniel Ingersoll and later purchased by John L. Gardner in 1842. Gardner's daughter-in-law, Isabella Stewart Gardner make Green Hill famous for its Italian and Japanese gardens in the 1890s.
