Residence of Mrs. Ellen H. Grout, East Main St. Her
sons, Fred and Charles B., developed the Grout steam car in 1894. Their
company, Grout Brothers Motor Carriage Works (later the Grout Bros.
Automobile Co.) manufactured both steam and gasoline-powered cars. The
business disbanded in 1913. The barn, location of the first workshop used by
the Grout brothers, can be seen behind the house.
