Draper, George, 1817-1887; Draper Family

Description

A cabinet card photograph of George Draper. It was George Draper who really started the Draper Corporation. In 1853 he joined his brother Ebenezer Draper in the Hopedale Community, a Utopian Community based on a mixture of religion and industry started by Rev. Adin Ballou in 1942. In 1856 he convinced Ebenezer, then president of the community, to withdraw the investments made by products produced with Ira Draper's patents and create the E. & G. Draper Corporation. The withdrawal of their support led to the collapse of the community.
