Noteworthy events of Massachusetts Governor Eben Sumner Draper written by William Andrew Murphy, his private secretary in 1910, taken from the book, The Administrations of Hon. Eben Sumner Draper; Governor of Massachusetts, 1909-1910, Acting Governor, 1908. The book documents the Governorship of Eben S. Draper from 1909-1911. During his term he established Columbus Day as a legal Holiday and formed the Massachusetts branch of the American Red Cross. He served as the Lieutenant Governor in Massachusetts from January, 1906 until January, 1909 when he took over the Governorship from Governor Curtis Guild, Jr. due to an illness. He served as Governor until January, 1911.
