Description
George E. Dailey a member of the Civil war veterans' group, Grand Army of the Republic from Hopkinton C.C. Phillips post 14. He wears his G.A.R. metals and its insignia on his hat. The type written label indicates he served in CO 1. 15th Mass Infantry. The post was formed in 1882 and functioned till at least 1929. The group had about 54 members and met monthly on Church Street. His was one of 35 images framed together and displayed in Hopkinton Public Library for many years.Note G.A.R. membership badge on lapel with eagle, American flag ribbon and shield with engraved insignia. The 5 pointed star is a principle G.A.R. symbol. Whit clover pin on hat denotes second division, second corps within the 15th Massachusetts Infantry.
