Description
Hopkinton's civil war veteran's group the Grand Army of the Republic member Jonathan Bailey, of Hopkinton's C.C. Phillips Post 14. A type written label indicates that he served in CO. 3, 20th Vermont Infantry. Note G.A.R. insignia on his hat. This was one of 35 images of members whose individual photographs were framed together and displayed for many years in The Hopkinton Public Library. A Hopkinton charter of The G.A.R. was formed on July 21, 1882 and remained active until at least 1929. There were approximately 54 members. Note G.A.R. wreath membership badge and lapel badge with 3 pieces, plate, flag ribbon
and 5 pointed star. The plate indicates his membership ranking.
