The town's memorial to World War I veterans is located at Monument Square. Monument Square is the park-like gateway to Swampscott and the entrance to the Olmsted Subdivision. Its center is the intersection of Humphrey Street, Monument Avenue, and Burrill Street and is marked by a tall obelisk on a green triangular traffic island.
