Description
Image of Civil war veteran and Hopkinton G.A.R. Post 14 C.C. Phillips member William H. Greenwood. A typewritten label indicates that he served in the war as a member of Co. N. 12th New York Infantry and in Co. A. 1st New York Mounted Rifles. He wears a dress coat with vest and he is adorned with G.A.R. insignia and has a white beard. The G.A.R. formed a charter in 1882 and met regularly on Church Street until it disbanded around 1929. His photograph was among 35 which were framed together and displayed in The Hopkinton Public Library until 2011. Post 14 was named for Charles C. Phillips. Note G.A.R. lapel and tie pin.
