Description

Image of Town Hall building formerly on Main Street Hopkinton, ca 1880. It is a four-story clapboard sided building with three arched windows on its fourth floor. Note the front porch with four sets of windows. The building was on the north side of Main Street, the buildings to its left are westward. A.A. Sweet & Co. Dry goods merchant was a tenant on the first floor as indicated by its sign. This town hall structure was destroyed by fire in April of 1883. The fire was said to be the work of an incendiary and fire reportedly broke out in the north east corner of the building. The adjacent buildings were also burned.
