Description

Founder of Watertown Enterprise in 1879. Owner of S.S. Gleason and Company, a grocery. Gleason was a selectman in 1874-5, and Secretary and Treasurer of the Watertown Co-operative Bank, Trustee of the Watertown Savings Bank and Director of the Union Market Bank. Gleason also sold insurance and was an appraiser and auctioneer. Gleason, a realtor, was a partner in the Watertown Land Company which was responsible for Whiting Park, the Otis Street district and the Page estate in the south side of the Charles River. Gleason lent his daughter's name to Marion Street. He also belonged to the Young Men's Assembly which brought business, technology and progressive thinking to Watertown.
