Image of the Elizur Holyoke, one of the Mount Tom Rail Road’s trolleys. Named for one of the two founders of Holyoke, cable cars such as this and its companion the Thomas Rowland, brought passengers up and down Mount Tom daily. The cable car is filled to capacity with standing well-dressed passengers. In the middle of the car is the trolley motorman. The conductor stands on a small platform outside the trolley. It is surrounded on both sides by rock walls and the Holyoke Railway line travels on ahead. Above are the cables along which the car travels.
