From the Jeremy Belknap papers. Page 2 is a receipt of payment in exchange for freedom of Corydon signed by Otis Baker, "one of the administrators," 13 April 1778. This is a bill of sale for a sixteen-year-old slave named Corradan from William Shackford to James Chesley, 19 July 1756. On the verso is a receipt to Corydon who purchased his freedom for �75 from Otis Baker and Lydia Chesley, the administrators of the estate of James Chesley, 13 April 1778. The individual's name is spelled two different ways (Corradan/Corydon) within this document.
