Description

This is a poem written by Phillis Wheatley on the death of Charles Eliot, 1 September 1772. Charles Eliot was but 12 months old when he died, and in the poem Wheatley attempts to offer solace to the parents, based upon the notion that the baby died in a "pure" state and would be happier in heaven. The poem is published in Wheatley's book, Poems on Various Subjects.
