Page 120b of the Haydenville Records 1 (9 inches w. x 11 1/2 inches h.; compiled 1950), Volume 5 of a larger series of scrapbooks created by resident Charles H. Wheeler, M.D. (1879-1955), this one chronicling historic events and the lives of the residents of the village of Haydenville, Mass., part of the town of Williamsburg, Mass. During the 1950s, Dr. Wheeler compiled more than 15 scrapbooks of memorabilia, photographs, sketches, transcriptions, news clippings, and sometimes objects that documented the history and contemporary events of Williamsburg and Haydenville, Mass. Dr. Wheeler was a Vermont born general practitioner who ran a private medical practice from his home in town. He married Susan Bostwick Hadley (1883-1972) and the couple lived in Haydenville. This page shows a portrait of Anna I. Hayden (1835-1912), Donor of the Haydenville Library. It also shows a photograph of the Haydenville Library, c. 1930-1950, taken by Robert P. Emrick, (1890-1982), Leeds, Massachusetts. Caption reads: The Haydenville Library Association was organized in 1884, and opened in the center school building. The present library building was given by Miss Anna I. Hayden, daughter of Josiah and Ann Lewis Hayden, about 1890 in memory of her brother, Charles Rowley Hayden (1845-1886), whose portrait hangs over the fireplace. / In mss hand: Dedication, Nov. 18. 1889. Presentation speech by Hugo Reid of N.Y.C. Response by W.M. Purrington. Gazette.' Haydenville Records 1 includes a map and listing of the High Street Cemetery, photographs of residents and events, news clippings, lists of the Haydenville Congregational Church members, town anniversary celebrations and more.
