In the foreground is a man sitting in a horse drawn carriage. Other carriages are standing on Main Street further up the block. A view of the north side of Main Street from the Universalist Church to the Hartwell building on the corner of Central Street, shown shaded by a large tree. Hartwell's Pharmacy, run by Samuel Hartwell, Apothecary is in the foreground. The original balcony over the main entrance is viewable. A pestle and mortar advertising the business is hanging over the doorway. Various flags and buntings hang from the windows of the Hartwell building, where people are gathered in groups. Universalist church is in the distance and is recognizable by its original steeple. The street is unpaved.
