A promotional postcard of a Laboratory at Springfield College. The postcard shows a professor helping a student look through a microscope with the caption of "PRYING INTO THE UNKNOWN A LABORATORY SCENE AT SPRINGFIELD COLLEGE, SPRINGFIELD,MASS.". The professor is most likely Peter Karpovich, an innovative and premier sports physiology professor at Springfield College. Peter Karpovich arrived at Springfield College in 1925 where he enrolled as a special advanced student and earned a Master’s Degree in Physical Education from SC in 1929. In 1927, while completing his studies, Karpovich became a professor of physiology at Springfield College and remained in that position until his retirement from teaching in 1961. After retiring, Karpovich remained as the Director of the Physiology Lab at Springfield. Karpovich, published over 150 books, articles and reports covering nearly fifty years of research. He died in 1975.
Postcard dated Feb. 17, 1942; written by Karpovich to Mrs. A. Renfroe in Brady, Texas. " Dear Mrs. Renfroe, Greetings from Fort Worth. I hope that your throat is better now and you can resume your singing lessons. I found my old student here and he of all things engaged for me a suit of two rooms worth insisting that I should be his guest. What could I do? I accepted. Give my regards to Sheriff Gallaway and his aid and also to Myrtle. Sincerely, P.V.K."; the postcard does not contain a stamp and appears to have never been sent.
