Description

A graduate of Bridgewater State College and Harvard University, D. Justin McCarthy witnessed unparalleled growth at the school, which in 1968, formally became Framingham State College. During his 24 years as president, the school was authorized to grant a master's degree in education, men were admitted beginning in 1964, the number of majors grew to 27, enrollment increased from 632 to 3,200, the faculty increased from 45 to 140, and 10 buildings were constructed. The McCarthy College Center was built in 1976 in honor of D. Justin McCarthy.
