Description
Tree-lined Main Street is shown leading to the
American Optical Company campus in the distance. The Universalist Church
spire and the Elm Street Congregationalist Church spire are depicted here
- both razed in the 1938 hurricane. The Y.M.C.A. building at the corner
of Main and Elm streets has subsequently been razed also. Additionally the
top floor of the Whitford building in the center of the image, was
lost to a fire in the early 1970s.
