Description
A strip of cloth that was originally sewn by Elias Howe Jr. using the first sewing machine that he patented in 1846. The strip was preserved by his cousin, Mary Lucy Howe. Later, it was notarized and signed by her husband, Frank A. Smith, on June 28, 1910, and presented to the Historical Society of Spencer, Massachusetts.
