Description

A Jersey cattle show at Sibley Farms in Spencer, Massachusetts. The photograph shows the cows tied to the fences in front of the milking salon and people walking around and viewing the animals. The building to the left is now part of Ragsdale Chevrolet. The Sibley Farms was a fixture of Spencer for many years. It began when Rufus Sibley purchased Moose Hill Farm in 1887. By May of 1922 the farm was selling milk to residents and later became the Jersey Milk Service Inc. The milk service grew to seven thousand customers and was sold to H.P. Hood & Sons in October of 1955. Sibley continued to operate Sibley farms and sold the milk to the Jersey Milk Services operated by Hood until the farm was finally sold in 1963.
